Adoption DNA Testing

IntelliGENETICS is a resource that adoption agencies and adoptive parents use to determine maternity, and sometimes paternity, without doubt. Our DNA laboratories can determine if the woman offering her child for adoption is the biological mother.  We also provide confirmatory testing of children that is usually done just before the adoptive parents take custody of the child to confirm that the child being presented to the adoptive parents is in fact the same child that they met and tested at the beginning of the process.  During the course of an adoption process a baby often matures into a young child and appearances can be deceiving.  With international adoptions some U.S. Embassies require a second DNA test of the child to confirm that the child has not been switched between the time the first DNA test was conducted (usually early in the adoption process) and just before the adoptive parents take custody.  Test reports are generally provided in 7 – 10 days. Expedited service (3 day and 24 hour service) is also available.

Adoption agencies and adoptive parents have two options.

Option 1:

IntelliGENETICS allows the agency and/or family the opportunity to obtain the genetic evidence required to satisfy a court or U.S. Embassy.  IntelliGENETICS is accredited by the AABB (Asosyasyon Ameriken nan bank san) for parentage so our final reports are court admissible and recognized by U.S. Embassies throughout the world.

Option 2:

Our affiliate, DNA Match, allows the agency and/or family the opportunity to obtain useful information at minimal expense prior to beginning the long adoption process.  Using DNA Match, send in a sample from the mother and the child (or just the child) for a rapid, uncomplicated and cost effective maternity test or child identity confirmation test.  There is no chain of custody requirement as it is solely for your information.  Of course, since there is no chain of custody, the final report will not be accepted by the court or U.S. Embassy.  For instructions on how to collect, package and ship your specimens go to DNA Match.
